26 years old newly qualified female inspector took over the case for the investigation of a series of "sex attack" reported by school girls have captured the "sex beast". A 27-year-old man, dubbed a "sex beast" who is suspected of attacking girls in school uniforms, was yesterday charged with molesting a teenager. The man was also charged with loitering after he was seen to follow a woman into a lift on Tsui Wan Estate, Chai Wan. He will appear at Eastern Magistrates' Courts today.

The man, who was arrested on Wednesday night, was escorted by police to his flat at Yee Tsui Court, Chai Wan, in the hunt for evidence. They remained in the flat for an hour and took away a number of articles for forensic tests. Among items seized were a shirt, shoes and a plastic bag he allegedly used during the attack. The man reportedly used the bag to cover the head of the 15-year-old while he molested her in a residential building on Yu Wan Estate, Chai Wan, at around 11pm on April 27. After he ran away from the scene, the girl reported the case to police. Officers suspect he used the plastic bag because he lived in the area and did not want to be recognized by the girl. The police were able to track him down when they viewed footage from several surveillance cameras in Yu Wan Estate and Yee Tsui Court.

During the investigation, officers found that he had also followed a woman into a lift at Tsui Wan Estate at around 10.30pm just before the schoolgirl attack. However, he left the lift without touching the woman. Investigators are examining his possible links to other indecent assaults in Chai Wan. On Monday, two 17-year-old schoolgirls were sexually molested on a footbridge near the Chai Wan MTR station. Eastern District Council chairman Chung Shu- kun yesterday commended the police for their prompt action. Chung said security on Yu Wan Estate is generally good and he believes the attack was a one-off case. Chung said he hopes the Housing Department will step up security on the estate. A 17-year-old student, surnamed Chow, who lives in Chai Wan, expressed fears over the recent sexual assaults in the district. Chow said she will ask her classmates to keep her company as she heads home from school.
