Yau Ma Tei police were called in following another attack of corrosive liquid which were poured down from the block of flat between Nanking street and Temple street yesterday evening. A man was arrested after the police blocked all exits and did a thorough search of the surrounding areas.
The incidence happened at about 9:30pm at the junction between Nanking street and Temple Street last night. Corrosive liquid were poured down from the above flat, 30 people aged between 7 to 56 were injured, including 9 tourists. Most of them sustained injury to their head, face, arms and legs. They were taken to the nearby hospital and later discharged after treatment. The police spokesperson stated that although they have arrested a man, his motive of those attacks are not clear.
When the police were searching the area, they found a man hiding on the outside wall of the roof top in a building in Nanking street. The 30 year old suspect lives at the roof top of the building. On arrival, the police found lots of empty bottles at the roof top. They believe the empty bottles were in fact the corrosive bottle containers that the suspect had used. Since December 2008 there have been 8 cases of corrosive liquid attacks in Mongkok and Causeway Bay. The police need to carry out further investigation to ascertain if the acid attacks were done by the same man.

HONG KONG (AFP) - – A man arrested in Hong Kong at the weekend after one of a spate of acid attacks in the city is no longer a suspect, police said Monday, leaving the real culprit at large. About 30 people were injured on Saturday night after bottles of acid were hurled from a building above the busy Temple Street night market, the latest in a string of unsolved attacks that has terrorised the city of seven million. Authorities spotted the man on the rooftop of a building next to the scene, later telling media he was arrested in connection with the attack. But police said Monday that the 39-year-old was actually arrested for skipping a court date in an unrelated white-collar crime case. "He is not involved in the acid attack and our investigation continues," a police spokeswoman told AFP. "He skipped a court date -- that was why he was arrested. It just happened that there was an acid attack on that day in the same area." It was unclear why the man, a tenant of the building, was hiding on the rooftop, but he might have thought police were in the area looking for him. Since late 2008, there have been at least six acid attacks in several shopping districts across Hong Kong, leaving more than 100 people injured.
