Son's debt collection caused father to collapse and die


A man living in Choi Wan Estate in Ngau Chi Wan was pursued by two men for debt collection at home yesterday afternoon, and the father living with the son found out about the 200,000 dollars debt that the father was shocked, became emotional and collapsed; the father died in hospital later. After the son returned home from the hospital, he locked himself inside the home, standing in front of a window stared in blank.

This incident occurred in a flat at Choi Wan Estate, the deceased man was Lai × Hei (62 years old), who had no chronic or physical illness before his death. Causes to sudden death is pending by a forensic autopsy, and will not rule out the possibility of hidden heart disease that was stimulated by a state of agitation as a result of death. Son with debt is Lai × See (32 years old). After he returned from hospital, he stayed home standing in the balcony window staring in front of a window, as if he was guilty for his father's death.

Sources said at the scene that Mr. Lai and his son moved into the premise for only a few years who rarely talk to the neighbors, so they do not know their family situation. The incident occurred yesterday at 12:17pm, two debt collection agencies sent 2 men to to recover a 200,000 dollars debt, to which the son answered the door and had a heated quarrel with the collectors behind his flat's front door iron gate. The quarrel alerted the father who went to check it out and once he learned about his son huge debt that he quickly got angry. The father joined into the quarrel with the collectors debating debt repayment methods. But the father was probably emotionally agitated that he suddenly collapsed, the debt collectors seeing the father collapsed left immediately, so son called police to seek help sending the father to United Christian Hospital where the dad was unfortunately certified dead. The police subsequently took over on investigation believing that the incident did not involve criminal element classifying the case as "Someone fainted", and searched the 2 debt collectors to assist in the investigation.

After son returned home from the hospital, he locked himself inside just standing on balcony staring out in front of the window as if he regretted for causing his dad's death due to being pursued by debt collectors of owing money. The son turned a deaf ear to media's interview outside the flat, and neighbors were shocked by the incident.
