Yoo Jae Suk becomes the first celebrity to win eight Daesangs in a row

Comedian and MC Yoo Jae Suk recently broke the record for the longest streak of Daesang wins in South Korean broadcast history.

Beginning in 2005, he’s won Daesangs at every end-of-year ceremony: 2005 at KBS, 2006 and 2007 at MBC, 2008 at SBS, 2009 at both MBC and SBS, 2010 at MBC, 2011 at SBS, and finally, just earlier today, 2012 at SBS as well.

With his latest win, the ‘nation’s MC’ stepped over the previous record of seven years set by pop legend Jo Yong Pil, who won the Daesang every year from 1980 to 1986.



Winners from the ’2012 SBS Entertainment Awards’

The ‘2012 SBS Entertainment Awards‘ was held earlier today to celebrate another successful year for SBS.

The big winner tonight was none other than ‘Nation’s MC’ Yoo Jae Suk, who won the coveted Daesang for the second year running for his highly successful Sunday variety program ‘Running Man‘.

“I am truly thankful that I’ve received this award again, but I don’t know how to express it,” he said in a short speech. “The more times I receive it, the more sorry I am.”

“Since I also received a big award earlier today, the Viewer’s Choice Popularity Award, I don’t know what to say. I didn’t even imagine that ‘Running Man’ would receive as much love as it does. I’m thankful to the viewers, cast members, and the producers who stuck with the program when it was on the verge of being cancelled.” he said. “With this in hand, I’ll run even harder. Even though we’re having a tough ratings battle right now [against competitor programs], I think the real competition is the ability to deliver laughs. That’s all I will think about.”
