Love is not blind, a relationship expert affirmed, as a survey revealed that 30 percent of local women dislike shorter and balding men as potential husbands. The survey involved 206 women, aged 18-47, who were interviewed this month. The respondents comprised 106 locals and 100 mainlanders. Mainland women were not as rigid as Hongkongers about their height and hair preferences. Mainlanders were more focused on a man's intelligence and high educational attainment. On the other hand, Hong Kong women put these qualifications at the bottom of their list for a husband or partner. Relationship expert Dominic Wong Ho-yin, who conducted the survey, said no girl wants a man who is shorter than she is. Wong said that based on his observations, men whose height is between 178 centimeters and 187cm are more physically attractive to Hong Kong women. "Each of us has our own standard of beauty that colors our expectations of how our future husband should look," Wong said. "If the man is taller or if he towers over his woman, he is seen as dominating his spouse." The survey also found that 5 percent of Hong Kong women rejected fat guys while their mainland counterparts were not particular about weight. As for the most attractive quality a future partner should have, 41 percent of Hongkongers said it is maturity, while most mainland respondents said it is intelligence. "As we begin to see more of the inner qualities, a man who refuses to grow up will no doubt turn me off," said Suki, a 31-year-old Hongkonger. The financial consultant, who has not dated for six months, said Hong Kong men in general are not willing to shoulder the responsibilities of long-term relationships. Other qualities that might impress local women are a man's financial capability and a desirable lifestyle, according to the survey. The results of the survey, commissioned by Microsoft Xbox 360, were presented yesterday to the Ani-comics and Game Fair crowd at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai. The show, which kicked off last Wednesday, ends tomorrow. Don't Forget to click the "THANKS" button |
