The Danson X-Files

As a sequel to the popular Taiwanese drama, KO ONE in 2005, The X-Family stars Danson Tang, where he is part of a seemingly ordinary family but with extraordinary super powers. We find out what 'powers' Danson secretly wants to have, his take on rumours of his relationship with 'super mum' Pauline Lan, and his next drama all about cooking!

teens: Hello Danson! Tell us more about your character in The X-Family.
DT: Xia Yu is the eldest in the family and is very naggy, always wanting to have a say in everything that goes on, no matter big or small. That's a lot like me-when I'm home, i like to have a say over my mum and sister's matters. I want to know everything that's going on. But hat's different is that Xia Yu is very smart in his studies and good and handling money, but I'm not.

Was filming embarrassing, because all of you had to imagine all the special effects and act as if it was going on?
Yes it was quite embarrassing! But as Jiro and I had already filmed KO ONE, and there were already scenes where we had to pretend we had Qi Gong, so that experience helped us in filming X-Family. For the new characters they felt embarrassed and uncomfortable to do all those actions (pumps his fist in the air) but Jiro and I had a lot of fun. We would even just play around the set with all these 'powers'! At the beginning it was awkward but after we got over that, everything got better because we grew up reading comics, so we just imagined ourselves as children and it became really fun.

Out of all the different weapons that belong to the various characters in the show, which power do you hope to have in real life?
(Thinks) I guess I'd like to be able to fly. If I wasn't an artiste, I would really love to be a fighter pilot, and fly to all the different countries in the world to take a look. I really love the thrill of the adrenaline rush when everything is fast and becomes a blur.

We hear your next show is all about cooking!
Yes, and my co-star is Jiro, yet again. Selina's sister, Kiki was supposed to be in the show, but pulled out because she wanted to focus on her studies, so now the female lead is Genie Zhuo Wen Xuan. It's as if these roles were specially tailored for Jiro and me- in it i act someone really rich, whose family owns a hotel and is really talented at French cuisine, but for Jiro he's really poor, living in the fishing village and only knows how to cook fried rice. I'm really cool and collected, but he's just really... Jiro, you know? (Laughs) It's basically about a girl stuck between the two of us.
