Synopsis
An incident occurs while the members of “Team Himekawa” under Himekawa Reiko of the First Investigative Division’s Tenth Section are on stand by at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police headquarters. 10 years ago, Yoneda Yasushi caused a train to overturn in an accident which hurt and killed more than 100 people. He is found dead at the same location as the accident, run over by a train. The dead body has been cleaved into two exact halves, and the investigation begins on both the suicide and murder angles. Through their legwork, Reiko and her team discover that the time between his departure from the pub that he usually drank at to the time his dead body was found, was short. If it was a murder, it was very likely a premeditated crime. Furthermore, they have testimonies that Yoneda had yelled at the pub that he is responsible for compensation of 860 million yen to the train operator, the injured and the families of the deceased. Miharu, the eldest daughter of Ogawa Mutsuo, the president of the association of victims and deceased which seeks compensation from Yoneda, had died a terrible death in the accident 10 years ago. The team learns that a station employee called Tokuyama Kazutaka had desperately tried to save Miharu just before her train carriage was crushed and starts investigating.
