S.H.E Returns

IT’S always a pleasure to meet up with Taiwan’s foremost girl group S.H.E., comprising Selina Ren, Hebe Tian and Ella Chen. For one thing, they are always playful and so adorable. In town to promote their latest album titled FM S.H.E., the girls are in their element, dressed in short skirt/pants and light skimpy tops, proclaiming that it’s nice to be away from Taiwan’s cold winter.

"Although it is still rather cold in the hotel," proclaims Ella mischievously, the obvious ‘ring-leader’ in the girls’ antics and the one who directs the other two during the photography session so that everyone could get a good shot.

The girls feel that the album, in the form of a radio programme, is a brand new concept that is more down to earth, and which signifies that they are not little girls any more.

Ella was reduced to tears during the recording of one track on the album while Selina got to write the lyrics to the Jay Chou’s composition, An Jing Le (Quiet), at his request.

Though the song is a sad one, based on Selina’s own experiences, the other two could not control their laughter when recording it.

"We know her so well that we understood exactly what she was trying to say and although it was sad, it was also adorable and so like Selina," they chorus.

"The album also gives a positive message to our listeners," says Ella. "No matter how bad things seem (what with the economic downturn and all), you still have to carry on."

Selina agrees and says that one must remain optimistic and forge ahead. "We feel that we would set a good example with this album."

When asked how they handle the bad moments in life, Selina says she would talk non-stop to friends and family and would then feel better afterwards.

"I learn not to delve on it," says Ella. "I try and do something else, which would distract me from sad things. I believe that the more you obsess on bad things, the worse you get and the more difficult to extricate yourself."

Meanwhile, Hebe says she would seek the warm and loving embrace of her friends or family.

"Another alternative is to go into the Internet," she adds. "When you interact with your fans, it is comforting to know that they are there for you with their support and love."

It’s not difficult to see why S.H.E. is the perfect model of optimism what with the girls’ cheerful and hardworking outlook in life.

They always manage to enjoy themselves and their giggles are so infectious that they send everybody else grinning as well – sometimes without even knowing why.

With the Lunar New Year looming ahead, the girls have plenty of plans and dreams to fulfil.

Ella and Selina hope to go into acting while Hebe wants to be given the chance to do the kind of music she likes.

"I would love to have the opportunity to work with director Ang Lee," says Ella. "He’s such a great guy that I wouldn’t mind just a bit part if it gives me the chance to learn from him."

Selina prefers acting with Stephen Chow in a comedy. "I like to watch movies, especially comedies and working with Stephen would be perfect."

As for Hebe, she will leave the chance to act to fate, though she doesn’t mind co-starring with a cute guy like Takeshi Kaneshiro!

Last but not least, all three girls want to find that someone special, to have true love and live happily ever after.

For their fans this coming Lunar New Year, Ella says: "I wish that the year would be smooth sailing and that everyone would be healthy and happy."

To that, Selina adds: "Also, I wish that everybody is healthy and happy and that the environment would improve and we could all earn more money!"

FM S.H.E. is distributed locally by HIM International and is now available at all music stores.
