Recalling 2008: This year's hottest gossip!
This year has been a year of both ups and downs. Many golden couples have undergone changes in their marriage both inside and outside the country. Madonna and England director Guy Ritchie has just completed their divorce process and 18-year relationship Harlem Yu and Annie Yi are currently in the cooling-off period, coincidentally though, both situations involve a third party.
However, there have also been lots of ‘weddings of the century’ this year. Movie King Tony Leung and Carina Lau married in Bhutan early this year and battled with the media, ‘most beautiful Hong Kong sisters’Michelle Reis and Julian Xu, Kelly Chen and ALEX, Taiwan billionaire Terry Gou and Delia Tseng have all become blissful exclamation marks in the show business.
This year has also been a blooming year in terms of films and concerts, “Cape No. 7” has so far earned a massive $460,000,000yuan and has given a huge boost to tourism. Concerts from artists such as Jiang Hui, Tiger Huang, Fei Yu Qing have attracted a lot of money, and even Japanese star Arashi has come to hold its concert here.
However, the hottest topic in 2008 is of course the Edison Chen nude photos scandal, which resulted in him exiting the Hong Kong entertainment industry.
This year in the industry, there have been big changes in love, some have risen to success but some have been burnt from playing with fire.
Nude photo scandal
On the 27th of January, Hong Kong websites revealed many nude photos of Edison Chen with various female artists. At first Edison’s managament company denied and insisted that the photos had been photoshopped, however as more and more photos appeared online, paper could not cover fire, and Edison finally held a press conference in Hong Kong on the 21st of February. He apologised to everyone that had been affected, and the general public, also announcing that he would forever exit the Hong Kong entertainment industry.
Tony Leung & Carina Lau: wedding of the century
On the 21st of July, Tony Leung and Carina Lau, who had been together for almost 20 years, finally got married in Bhutan. This event was named the “wedding of the century” and the most important thing about this event was that it proved that there is still true love in the entertainment industry. Tony and Carina have been through wind and rain, but still have withstood the test, and finally have mutually committed to each other, vowing to spend the rest of their lives with each other. Their simple words, “I do” actually encloses so much tolerance and mutual trust, which surpasses the words “I love you” and tightly holding onto the meaning of true happiness.
Madonna & Guy Ritchie divorce
On the 16th of October, Western music queen Madonna filed for divorce with England director Guy Ritchie, afterwards, there were rumours about her $300,000,000 assets and custody of her child. Of course, baseball star A-Rod was accused of being the third party and the last straw in crushing their marriage. However, on the 21st of November, London High Court officially announced that their divorce had come into effect, but sources report that Guy did not get any of Madonna’s assets, evidently displaying Madonna’s sharp-cut dominance.
Michelle Reis rumours double happiness
On the 23rd of November, Hong Kong beauty Michelle Reis and wealthy Julian Xu held a grand wedding, and many thought of it as a Prince and Princess’s blissful fairytale. Former Miss Hong Kong winner Michelle, has sparked rumours with many Hong Kong billionaires in the past. As for Julian, he used to date Carina Lau, and also married and divorced Stanley Ho’s daughter Pansy Ho. In June 2006, he was discovered to be in a relationship with Michelle, and on the 28th of October this year, they revealed they were going to be married, and after this, there were rumours of Michelle being pregnant, but this has yet to be confirmed.
Harlem Yu sinking into marriage crisis
Prince and Princess’s fairytale will always be subjected to the reality test. Taiwanese billionaire Terry Gou tied the knot with Delia Tseng, and besides the age gap, money was also the focus of attention from everyone. As for already married Annie Yi and Victor Huang’s fling, how will husband Harlem Yu deal with this marriage crisis? Letting Harlem, who never likes to talk about his private life, face the most difficult decision of his life. Previously, this life-or-death kind of love, how to clean up the public’s memory? This hard question, should get an answer by next year.
Da S & ZaiZai separate; no malicious words or actions
Da S and ZaiZai got together after filming, and their 2-year relationship ended at the beginning of this year. There were rumours saying that Da S was forcing to get married, but the 2 showed a peaceful separation to the public. Sublimated into a family relationship, they remained in contact after their break-up, and never once did any malicious words or actions appear. The 2 have become the couple, which fans most wish to get back together.
