'Master of Play': Rachel Kan & Kenny Wong Most Eye-Catching Heart Devil; Interview with the Sand Painter
[Warning: May Contain Spoilers]

Development of the Actual Story

Since Master of Play's premiere, the strange and mysterious theme has made it a hot topic on the internet. Netizens have the same thoughts as Kan Siu Nam (Adam Cheng), hoping Aimee Chan is his missing daughter, Tansy Kan Chi Ying. We're really sorry, but you all have guessed wrong. Siu Nam's daughter whereabouts won't be explained in the story. In the series, Adam's daughter was kidnapped 25 years ago, but her whereabouts was never explained, it's very possible that something unfortunate happened to her. Adam misses his daughter extremely, everyday he dreams and imagines how his daughter grew up to be like (played by Lily Ho). But nobody really put in thoughts into Aimee's true identity, in fact she does have blood relations with Moses Chan and is his actual sister.

Interviewing the Most Eye-Catching 'Devil in the Heart'

In the premiere week, Moses Chan murdering and burning bodies caught a lot of attention, but in terms of the costumes, Moses' character does not compare to the other four artists. The most eye-catching in the series goes to Rachel Kan and Kenny Wong.

Kenny's 'V for Vendetta' look is pretty extreme, but Rachel's 'craving heart devil' look is even more eye-catching. Netizens were shocked to see her seduce Moses in episode 4. It turns out Rachel watched Sharon Stone's Basic Instinct prior to the shoot and each time she shoots a scene, she has to watch it once more. But Rachel said: "When I got the script, the producer told me to watch more erotic films. I watched Basic Instinct the most, and learned from Sharon Stone's soft and tender speech, always leaning [on others]. Actually the seducing Moses Chan scene in episode 4 is nothing! I didn't touch Moses...later we get even more intense. There are several bed scenes, one of them we look as if we were completely nude!"

Kenny said: "Some people said my costume looks like V for Vendetta, but I haven't even seen that. I got the idea from a fashion magazine...Ah Chik (Jonathan Chik) doesn't control me, I just be myself."

In the series, Rachel is longing to get Moses, and often entices him. Asked if she has enticed anyone or been enticed by anyone in real life? She said: "I have never enticed anyone nor is it necessary. Nobody has ever enticed me either! Perhaps after this series is out, there will be some! Haha!" Was Moses' girlfriend Aimee Chan on the set while they were filming the seducing scene in episode 4? Rachel said: "I don't think she was there! But, they weren't a couple yet at the time. I'm very familiar wih Ah Mo, so there's no embarrassment."

Sand Painter Hoi Chiu completes the paintings in 12 hours

Master of Play is a different type of series and has made a breakthrough with sand paintings at the end of each episode. The sand painting seen at the end of each episode is there to accompany each of the characters' thoughts and feelings. Producer Jonathan Chik hired sand painter Hoi Chiu, who previously worked on Eason Chan's Absolutely Naked (一絲不掛) MV. Each character's feelings are conveyed through the sand paintings.

Last Friday (5/25th), [FACE] contacted Hoi Chiu over the phone and he said: "Ah Chik (Jonathan Chik) was the one who contacted me. I watched the entire series and digested the story first before I did the paintings. For each episode, I used my own techniques to interpret and match the narration. I spent 12 hours to do the paintings for all 30 episodes, all in one breath. I drew the paintings 4 or 5 times for each episode, and sometimes maybe even drew it all in one breath. (Satisfied with the salary?) I didn't haggle over the money this time, but must be at least 5 figures!"
