Translated by: R.E.D @ http://asianuniverse.net/forums/ ![]() ![]() There have been numerous reports at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital involving staff being admitted to the hospital with diarrhea and stomach pain after eating at the hospital canteen. One of the nurses needed treatment at the hospital and three student nurses attended the casualty department . A hospital staff even took a picture of a cockroach which was on the food table, but staff had turned a blind eye to the picture. A hospital staff said "I saw the cockroach was roaming around on top of the food table, the kitchen staff turned a blind eye on the cockroach, which eventually found its way into the kitchen". The hygiene of the canteen is very poor, there were reports of rats infestation in the canteen last year. Miss Chan, one of the hospital staffs said "A rat had dropped down from the ceiling onto the canteen table, and it frightened the life of a few people". According to report, since May, at least 8 medical staffs were sick after eating in the canteen, one of the nurses "Ah Yeung" was hospitalized. Ah Yeung described soon after she had dinner in the canteen, she had stomach pain, followed by diarrhea and vomiting. For three days, she had medical treatment from a private clinic twice "I had constant diarrhea, I had a fever and kept shivering and sweating, I was suffering" Ah Yeung was later admitted to hospital suffered from acute gastroenteritis, she stayed in hospital for three days. Early July, three more cases of food poisoning were reported. Three students nurses reported they had stomach pain and feeling sick after they had breakfast in the canteen. They were admitted to the casualty department for treatment. Hospital spokesman pointed out that this three cases are individual cases and the students nurses have recovered very well. In terms of rat infestation, they have pest control and made some improvement. So far they have not received any report about having cockroaches in the canteen. Spokesperson from the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department said they have not formally received a complaint about the food poisoning cases, but they have so far received a complaint on poor hygiene standards in the hospital.
