 Greens out to gives chopsticks the shop 31/08/2008 Environmentalists have urged sushi restaurants to ditch disposable chopsticks in favor of reusable ones.Green group Friends of the Earth is targeting 14 sushi restaurant chains because of their practice of giving customers disposable chopsticks even when eating in. About seven people in ten were in favor of reusable chopsticks, a recent survey by FoE of 529 sushi shop customers in Causeway Bay and Mong Kok found. A joint FoE-City University study of 771 disposable chopsticks from 14 sushi and fastfood restaurants found that although all passed hygiene tests, many contained very high amounts of preservatives but still failed to prevent mold growing, indicating wet and dark storage conditions. |
