Plot
Love always comes at an unexpected time and place. The depiction of a relationship shared between two boys in Goodbye-day shows that it is also absent of reason. Although they are of different economic backgrounds, each is plagues with frustrationsbe it their respective parents’ obsessions, indifference or the trauma of abuse. When Ho-jin asks Woo-min about the moment he fell in love with him, he simply responds “You suddenly popped into the viewfinder of my camera.” Goodbye-day is a ‘queermelodrama’ that follows a friendship between two boys and its transformation into love. However, the film only mention queer issues as its story is told with the typical conversions of tear-jerking- melodramas. It tries to show an innocent and pathetic love shared between these two boys. But, it is the odd tension between the adult Woomin and his young and beautiful mother who dedicated her whole life to her son that creates intrigue. Just as love appears without warning, relationships also crack during unexpected moments.

Besides, every time I learn something new,
it pushes some old stuff out of my brain..."

"The doctor said if the pain is unbearable
I should exhale hard and the pain will go away
It is a lie
Ah Ying doesn't want me anymore
My refusal to change, my obstinacy (I can't make myself to change and because of my stubbornness)
Has left one wound after another on me
Every night, I wake up from the pain
I am so tired, I have no strength left for the pain
I am just a speck in the universe
My pain means nothing" - Wong He from Burning Flame III
