Filming put off for Ethan Ruan’s new movie

Taiwanese actor Ethan Ruan became one of the most sought-after actor after his Best Actor win, for his role in Monga, at the Golden Horse Awards last year.

It is believed that Ethan chooses his scripts carefully to ensure the quality of his projects; he had rejected a couple of movies, including an offer from Hong Kong actor-director Stephen Chow.

Ethan finally settled on two scripts -- Hong Kong director Peter Chan's The Flying Guillotine and an upcoming movie from Doze Niu, the director of Monga.

However, ever since the actor accepted a role in The Flying Guillotine, the actor had been tangled up in a web of ongoing gossip.

Firstly, Ethan's fans and fans of Chinese actor Huang Xiaoming, who was also offered a role in the movie, began a war of words with each other, hoping that their idols would be awarded the first male lead role.

Additionally, it was said that approval was not granted to the movie to film in China.

Recently, it was said that producer Peter Chan fell out with director Teddy Chan. Another director Andrew Lau will be taking over Teddy's role instead. Filming was then put off till July, to accommodate Andrew's schedule.

Ethan, who had been practising martial arts specially for the show, had no choice but to return to Taiwan. Co-star Xiaoming had also returned home to wait for further notice.

"We're not sure of these [rumours]. We only know it will be delayed. Production is a very complicated process and it's not something actors can understand. We're waiting for further notice," Ethan's manager commented.

When asked about the falling out he had with Teddy, Peter said, "We did not fall out. [I'm] not happy with the script. Changes had to be made, [resulting] in a conflict of schedules for the actors and the director. Teddy might not have the time to take on the project."
