![]() Title: Bishonen Released: 1998 Director: Yeung Fan Casts: Stephen Fung Daniel Wu Shu Qi Jason Tsang Terence Yin Kenneth Tsang Jiu Ngau Cheung Tat Ming Joe Junior James Wong Michael Lam Paul Fonoroff Synopsis: Acclaimed film director Yon Fan (Colour Blossoms, Peony Pavillion) explores the controversial issue of homosexuality in Hong Kong culture with Bishonen, an arthouse film that features an all-star cast and was an official selection to the 1998 Toronto Film Festival. House of Fury's Stephen Fung plays Jet, an arrogant male prostitute who falls hard for Sam (Daniel Wu of New Police Story), a straight-laced, seemingly heterosexual cop with a knockout girlfriend (Shu Qi of The Transporter). But as Jet's feelings grow, he is patently unaware that Sam harbors some buried secrets of his own, which are connected not only to Jet's old colleague Ching (Jason Tsang), but also to a pop star teenybopper idol named K.S. (Terence Yin). Along with Wong Kar-Wai's critically acclaimed Happy Together, Bishonen was one of the first Hong Kong films to deal directly with homosexuality in an explicit manner. Thanks to photographer-turned-director Yon Fan's deft handling of the material, Bishonen provides a heartfelt look at Hong Kong's gay subculture while providing the audience with a unique love story all its own!
