However, they do not stay together after the marriage. Instead, they continue leading their respective lives. Meanwhile, Zhi Shu gives birth to two lovely daughters, Jiang Hai Chao (Pinky Cheung) and Jiang Hai Lan (Michelle Ye).

After numerous tries, Zhi Shu and her daughters finally got their application to move to Hong Kong approved. Just as they are about to start their journey to Hong Kong, Zhi Shu is robbed at the railway station. Cui Zhi Wen (Patrick Tse Yin), the gangster Zhi Shu meets at the railway station, helps her go after the robbers, and they leave Hai Lan in the care of elder sister Hai Chao. The worst happens when Hai Lan is abducted amid the chaos! Hai Chao chooses not to call out for help when she could have prevented this mishap from happening...

In the end, with only Hai Chao in tow, Zhi Shu reunites with her husband Su Ying in Hong Kong. She can only make annual trips back to mainland China in the hope that she will find Hai Lan one day. As Hai Chao grows up, she starts feeling a sense of guilt as she reminisces over the fact that she could have saved her sister back then, and it is her fault that Hai Lan is still missing...

On Hai Lan's side, she is brought up by a pair of kind mainland doctors who even send her to a drama school to study. However, Hai Lan decides to keep a distance from her foster parents as she feels that she is not their birth daughter after all. Furthermore, she hates her sister Hai Chao for what happened at the railway station 20 years ago.

When Hai Lan is eventually reunited with the family, both she and Hai Chao still cannot come to terms with what happened two decades ago. Throughout all these years, while Hai Chao feels guilty about the loss of Hai Lan, Hai Lan wants to take revenge on her. The complicated relationships stir up more troubles when the two siblings fall in love with Qi Zhen Yu (Ken Chan), the adopted son of billionaire Qi Bai Chuan (Lo Hoi Pang)... -Mediacorp
