70% of people believe snack food packaging NON-ESSENTIAL
source: takungpao translated by cici@Asianeu Ho Hon-wai (right) said that the survey reflects over-packaging is very common in Hong Kong and citizens have low environmental awareness in reusing and recycling packaging ![]() September last year, Greeners Action conducted a survey targeting snacks packaging specifically included candy and cookies in all supermarkets. GA visited 898 people outside of supermarkets and survey found that 62 percent of respondents understood the meaning of excessive packaging while 46 percent and 37 percent thought snacks packaging to be moderate and excessive respectively. Over 70 percent thought not all food packaging was necessary. Of all the respondents, 76 percent said they dispose packaging material right away and only 15 percent said they would recycle packaging while 6 percent said they would reuse packaging. Greeners Action General Director of this survey said survey reflected over-packaging was very common in Hong Kong and citizens had low environmental awareness in reusing and recycling packaging. He also said separate packaging was too prevalent in the market, for example, a pack of 100 cookies used 51 bags for packaging, and only 14 percent respondents bought a product due to separate packaging. He recommended manufacturers to use simple packaging, and hoped the government made regulation. -------------------- EVIL 4g...
