400,000 people joined the big party along the two sides of Victoria harbour on New Year's Eve to celebrate the coming year of 2012. Many people started arriving in Tsim Sha Tsiu quayside as early as 3pm and by 9pm, everything was at a standstill. The firework displays started at 11pm, followed by firework and flying comets every 15 minutes. After the countdown at 12 o'clock, Year of "2012" lighted up on one of the skyscrapers, the firework displaying "HAPPY NEW YEAR" lasted for 4 minutes long. The theme of the party was "Love the world, love Hong Kong and count down"

In Lan Kwai Fong, the street was packed with party goers and all the bars and clubs were doing good business. "Sky 100" indoor observation deck opened its door to the public for the countdown for the first time, so that people can watch the spectacular firework displays on the highest building in Hong Kong.
